(no spoilers) why endgame hurts so much
Endgame hurts. For more than one reason, the plot, sure, what happens, sure, but it cuts deeper than that.
As a 2000 kid, I grew up with the Avengers. A lot of you can probably relate with the fact from a young age, we had the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s twist on the heroes growing alongside us. Even if you weren’t into it, you were exposed to them in one way or another.
Eleven fucking years. Eleven fucking years, we grew with these characters. We had them rooted into conversations at school, the halloween costumes, the video games, into us. They were part of our childhood. Followed us into our teenage years.
And I think the thing about it all ending is that… it just feels like the final call of reality screaming ‘you have to grow up.’
I’m 19. And I’m… fucking terrified of growing up. I’m not ready, I don’t feel prepared.
Avengers were just a constant in my and many other peoples childhoods. And now it’s just…it’s sad to see it go.
These characters developed alongside me. While I was learning about the world, I looked up to them. Within the last year, of me being 18-19, Steve Ditko passed. Stan Lee passed. And now the era of my childhood heroes is coming to an end.
It’s bittersweet.
It’s bitter, because I’m sad. You know, it hurts me to be able to see eleven years of movies wrap up.
But it’s sweet. No matter the complaints, so much talent and hard work was put into these movies. I know I have a lot of these characters values engrained into me from having the impression of them from such a young age. Because of that, they’ll always be with me. It’s sweet because I know I’ll always have them.
They’re what I love. They taught me so much about the type of person I want to be, fictional or not.
