Anyway I hate almost everything about the way the Russos direct. between not telling Tom Holland who he’s fighting in a scene and the fact that they locked their actors in rooms for hours to read the whole infinity war script without letting them process it on their own, and then those scripts turning out to be fake, it’s very clear that they don’t care about telling a compelling story. Not only is it disrespectful to the actors, but a good director should want their actors to fully understand the show they’re making so they can get the best out of them and find new hidden nuances. They would want to create the best art possible. A good story can still be good after being spoiled, because the journey itself is the interesting part.
But the Russos are admitting with their very direction style that these movies aren’t intended to be art, they’re products.
Not to hijack your post but to all the people saying it’s ‘impossible’ to do it any other way, you’re literally wrong. whatever anyone thinks of game of thrones, they called all the actors whose characters died days/weeks before the scripts came out to tell them, they do actual table reads with legitimate scripts and everyone present, they ask all of their actors exactly what they are/aren’t comfortable with, etc. GOT is on exactly the same level of secrecy and fame as the mcu and they can respect their actors enough to tell them all exactly how the entire show ends. This isn’t a matter of practicality it’s a matter of the culture you build as a director/creator and the culture the Russo brother’s built is a toxic one
Just to add adamant confirmation, the above is entirely correct. The Russos try to pass off their extreme methods with their knowledge of the film industry. But, let me tell you purely from an industry perspective, what the Russos, producers, and writers did was excessive and not at all necessary. It hindered their actors instead of collaborating with them.
