Calling out all graphics/gifs/content creators Do…

as someone who has made literally thousands of Gifs/Gif sets, why is it such a big deal if someone reposts a gif you made? aren’t gifs meant to be seen and shared? do reblogs and notes mean more than the gif itself? you DID NOT make the show/movie/etc so why would it matter that someone else wanted this on their blog? “internet points” aren’t that serious. It’s not original content, so it shouldn’t be so much of a problem.

First off, please unfollow me.

Second, in case anybody is actually curious. It’s because those of us who spend our time - which for one gifset can take over an hour - to make high quality gifsets deserve the recognition for it on this website. It’s because without gifmakers, fan artists, editors, video-makers, fanfiction writers, etc fandom people be a ghost town with only opinions to consume. It has ALWAYS been frowned upon to steal. If you don’t think that the person who put time and energy to color correct, correctly time, and sharpen a gifset doesn’t deserve recognition or credit for the time they spent, or that people who enjoy a gifset they see shouldn’t know who the original creator is so they can go look at more of that person’s content, you’re pretty awful and I don’t see why you’re spending YOUR time on a website that essentially remains active by content creators such a gifmakers.

It’s not about “internet points”. It’s about people being decent and respectful. If we wanted to make gifs for you to repost around everywhere, we’d be on Tenor or Giphy. It takes literally 2 seconds to hit the reblog button and not be a piece of shit.

The fact is, it should be really simple to understand somebody saying, “I spent a lot of time on this to post to MY blog, please don’t repost it.” I can’t fathom why somebody would attempt to argue that.

And miss me with that “you don’t own the TV show/movie” bit. Fan creations of TV shows and films have existed for decades. Studio heads are well aware of Tumblr’s existence and the existence of fandoms and if the content bothered them, they’d have dismantled this end of Tumblr a decade ago. If I make Star Wars gifs, you know where it came from. Especially since most creators include the title somewhere in the post. Forgive me if I think it’s okay for fans to be inspired and create from films and TV that already receive recognition and rake in millions of dollars.

“Gifmakers should not be put on the same level as fic writers or fan art makers” ????? Get out seriously. Tells me exactly what kind of person you are, not one worth knowing.
